The studio

A practice of patience and materials.

Atelier Vale is a two-person studio in the Sacramento foothills. We design houses and interiors for people who want fewer rooms, better light, and materials that age in place.

Most of our work is residential. We take on a handful of projects each year so we can stay close to the drawings, the site, and the people who will live there.

How we work

Start with the site. End with the hand.

    Walk the ground

    We begin on site — light, slope, wind, and the rooms you already love.

  2. 02

    Draw until it is quiet

    Plans stay spare. If a wall is not earning its keep, it leaves the page.

  3. 03

    Build with honest stuff

    Stone, timber, plaster, linen. Materials that look better as they wear.
